Anthropic launches Claude Duet, a proactive AI agent for small business owners
1 · What happened
This is a product launch, not a customer result. Anthropic lists jobs it can do through connected apps: find missed Gmail and Slack messages, check QuickBooks or Stripe for unpaid invoices and draft reminders, prepare Gusto payroll, and draft follow-up emails from HubSpot deal history. Anthropic itself warns it 'might misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent.' Access: US only, Pro and Max plans, by waitlist; not on Team or Enterprise plans yet (vendor's own description).
These numbers come from the builder and haven't been checked independently.

2 · How it works, in plain words
On 21 Oct 2026 Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent. Anthropic says it was built for professionals and small business owners: each morning it looks across your email and calendar and sends a brief of what needs you, it can draft replies and follow-ups, and it keeps working in the cloud after you close the app. It is designed to ask before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything.
3 · Setup steps
How to do it yourself
Our suggested steps. The company didn't publish theirs.
- 1
Join the Claude Duet waitlist with the email on your Claude Pro or Max account.
- 2
Connect only the apps it needs for one job, such as your inbox, calendar and CRM.
- 3
Give it one daily job with the prompt below.
- 4
Approve or edit each draft before anything is sent.
- 5
Count the leads that got a reply within a day, every week.
4 · The prompt
The instructions to give the AI
Paste this into Claude (the free plan is enough to try it), swap the [brackets] for your details, and test it on a few real examples.
This is one part of the setup. It won't connect to your phone, inbox or other apps on its own; the steps above cover that.
Agent instructions (prompt)
Every morning, check my inbox and [CRM] for enquiries and quotes with no reply from us in 2+ days. For each, draft a short follow-up in my tone with the next step and one time I'm free from my calendar. Show me the drafts first and don't send anything until I approve it.
[Highlighted] = replace with your own details before you run it.
What you should get back: "3 leads waiting: Sam (bathroom quote, 4 days), Priya (catering, 2 days), Leo (repair, 3 days). Drafts ready for your OK."
