01What the job is

An AI social posting workflow takes things you already have, like job photos, customer questions, a newsletter or a blog post, and turns them into short posts for each platform in your voice. It suggests captions and hashtags, lines them up in a calendar and publishes them at the times you pick, after you approve.

It suits any business that knows it should post but never gets round to it: trades, cafes, salons, shops, coaches, consultants and agencies. Most owners spend one short session a week approving drafts instead of writing from scratch.

02Real businesses doing it

03What it costs

Scheduling tools with built-in AI writing help are cheap. On their own pages: Buffer has a Free plan, and Essentials is $5 a month per channel billed yearly ($60 a year); Metricool has a free plan for one brand and Starter from $20 a month billed yearly; Later Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly.

Bigger suites cost more: Hootsuite's paid plans start at $99 a month for Standard. Most small businesses don't need that.

Writing the drafts can be done with any AI chat assistant you already pay for, using the prompt below. Prices are in US dollars as the vendors publish them (Metricool also shows euros).

05How to set it up

Setup time: Connecting your accounts to a scheduler takes minutes. Plan an afternoon to write your voice guide, make the first week of drafts and fix them.

  1. 1

Pick two platforms where your customers actually are. Don't try to be everywhere.

  2. 2

Collect raw material for one week: 5–10 job or product photos, three questions customers asked, one thing you're proud of, any offer or event.

  3. 3

Write a short voice guide: how you talk, words you use, words you never use, and how you like to end posts.

  4. 4

Paste the prompt below into your AI assistant with the raw material and voice guide. Ask for one week of posts.

  5. 5

Edit the drafts: fix facts, add a personal line, and pick the photo for each.

  6. 6

Connect your accounts to a scheduler from the table and schedule the week. Keep auto-publishing off until you've approved each post.

  7. 7

Once a month, look at which posts got enquiries or comments and ask the AI for more like those.

06Risks, trust and security

  • Generic, obviously-AI posts

Always start from real photos, real jobs and real customer questions, and add one line in your own words.

  • Wrong facts or claims

Check every price, date, offer and claim before it goes out. Never let AI invent results or testimonials.

  • Customer privacy

Get permission before posting customers' faces, homes, cars or names.

  • Platform rules

Some platforms ask you to label AI-generated images. Check each platform's rules if you use AI images.

  • Account access

Schedulers get permission to post as you. Use two-factor login and remove access for tools you stop using.

07The prompt

Paste this into your tool's instructions box, then replace the highlighted parts.

Agent instructions (prompt)

You write social media posts for [Business name], a [type of business] in [City]. Write like the owner: [3 words for your tone, e.g. friendly, practical, local].

RAW MATERIAL FOR THIS WEEK
[Paste: job or product photos described in a line each, customer questions, news, offers]

MAKE
- [5] posts for [Instagram], [3] posts for [Facebook / LinkedIn / Google Business Profile].
- Each post uses one piece of raw material. Don't merge them.
- Start with something specific (the job, the problem, the result), not "We're excited to...".
- 40–120 words. Plain language. [0–3] relevant hashtags at the end, local ones first.
- End with one clear next step: [call / book at link / visit / reply].

RULES
- Only use facts from the raw material. Never invent prices, results, reviews or customer quotes.
- Don't name customers unless the raw material says they agreed.
- No more than one emoji per post.

OUTPUT
A table: day, platform, post text, which photo to use, and one alternative first line.

[Highlighted] = replace with your own details before you run it.

08Questions owners ask

How much does AI social media posting cost?+

On the vendors' own pricing pages (checked 16 Oct 2026): Buffer has a Free plan and Essentials at $5 per channel a month billed yearly, Metricool has a free plan and Starter from $20 a month billed yearly, Later Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly, and Hootsuite starts at $99 a month.

Can AI post to social media for me automatically?+

Yes, schedulers can publish automatically. We suggest you approve every post first, because AI can get facts wrong.

Does it save much time?+

In our cases, one creator says a newsletter now becomes 21–28 posts a week in 15 minutes instead of 5–10 hours, and a founder says LinkedIn posts went from 2 hours to 15 minutes. These are their own figures.

Will AI posts get me customers?+

Our cases measure time saved, not sales, so we can't promise that. Track enquiries from social posts yourself.

Which platforms should I use?+

The two where your customers already look. For many local businesses that's Instagram or Facebook plus your Google Business Profile.
